Delta Outrigger Canoe Club is a non-profit group of people who enjoy paddling competitively and recreationally. Our club has two six-person, one two person and three one-person outrigger canoes for our members to use. We are located at the Deas Island Regional Park, an island in the lower reaches of the Fraser River, this is a great place for a paddle along the slough with the tall cottonwood trees and surrounding wetlands home to a variety of wildlife – from eagles and chickadees to frogs and otters.
The Fraser River is in Freshet. This results in increased water levels and stronger than usual currents. There may also be a change in the location or direction of local currents, and an increase in floating debris on the water. This is an annual event which can result in flooding, remember the evacuation alerts in the Fraser Valley in 2012 and 2018? The last major flood was in June 1948. Please be extra aware of river conditions for the next few weeks.
A beautiful day for a race, sunny Sunday March 31st.

Look for our teams out on the water at Deas Island as we prepare for our next race, April 13th, Fort Langley River Run.

In many parts of Canada, the paddling gear is away for the winter. In the Pacific Northwest, paddlers are fortunate that they can be on the water almost year round. However, risks do increase in the winter. The following are some basic common sense guidelines:
